Html blocks module editing and saving issues

    Posted by: sassa82 Jan 2, 2016 at 17:08 (9 year ago)
Hello and thank you in advance for your availability. Here's what occurred:

I worked out the biggest part of the website locally, without any problems to the Html module. Everything was working as described in documentation. Then I moved the website online, on a temporary domain, see private data. Here I started to have some problems.

    1) Column
    - From the module configuration, I added a Html block to the left column, with some simple title and text paragraph.
    - For some reason, the Html block was ok in the home page column, but the same block was duplicated in the category pages columns.
    - The module was seen in front office, but the module's preview in BO was not visible.
    2) Home Banners
    - Your website Demo data included 3 "banner blocks" right under the Home Slider.
    - As described in documentation, I edited the imported block, replacing images with others I uploaded.
    - This module was shown inside the BO editor, but images were not rendered here, as if the link was broken.

I was not able to control the modules from the Modules tab, so i tried deleting them in their position in Layout Control / Layout Builder. I started with the Html block in the column, but even after deleting the module from its position, the doubled module was still there.
The only way to delete them successfully was resetting the Html block module from the BO.

Once the module was reset, the Homepage block with 3 banners was the only html content still visible in the Module Editor, images were still invisible in the BO and visible in the Front.

    - I tried to start back from the beginning, entering my own hmtl blocks.
    - I pasted and copied all the code already inside the Editor to save it outside the site.
    - Then I deleted all the content and updated the block.
    - The block module has been deleted and is no more visible in the BO, but I still see it in the Homepage, no matter how many times i empty the cache (which is properly set off as the site is still to complete).

This module is quite important for the theme front in general, so I really hope we can go through this with your help.

I am sorry but what you asked seems more difficult than I thought.
I started trying to use the one-click update module, but it doesn't even start import.
I asked a better prestashop programmer how could this be, hope he can find why, I didn't.

My problem is about Theme update.
I am trying to find any useful tutorial or content about how to upgrade a Prestashop 1.6 theme in general.
I found no information about updating your theme London Stars in documentation, did I miss it?
Prestashop documentation has a small paragraph about core update, found nothing about themes.
Googling I found that some themes seller have their own tools or solutions and write a post about it.
I wasn't able to find other source about how to do this without db or cache issues.

Would you please give me sone hints about the step-by-step procedure,
or a useful link where I can find some data about how to update the theme properly,
even better if related to your theme in particular.
    Thank you a lot.

Hi! Answering to your points first.

    - Yes, after I wrote i had the core updated to latest version (manually, as the 1click module just doesn't work at all).
    - If "quick setup" option is importing demo content after install, yes, I did it and I think this could be helpful to understand the issue.
    - I've been following the install and import procedure through documentation too. I remember that when it came to the famous 3 Banners under the Home slide, documentation stated we should import content, then change what we saw in the editor, like replacing dummy images. I noticed this as it seemed strange to me.
    - I am not able to locate the theme version, can you do this with the data I gave you? Or tell me how to find out? My version of the Theme was 2.6.3 originally. I bought and installed the theme in December 2014 first time. Then the customer stopped the project and after 10 months i had the permission to go on with the project and I just downloaded it again from Envato download page in November 2015 (and guess what, now they want the site up urgent!!)

I'm writing some things which made me think in these last days, even if I am not expert enough to understand if they're really worth.
    - In module configuration, selecting hooks in left column, I see that sometimes the module is visible in Homepage. If I add Html and save, I see Html remains in the Editor, but no preview in the BO in all cases.
    - Trying to take out the banners from the homepage, I think I deleted something important from the Theme Configurator, like the module "occurrence" in the 3 Banners hook, but if i push on the "+" icons to add another "occurrence" of the html module, I just can't add modules to the top column of the store (under the main homepage slider).
    - I tried several times to de-activate or reset the module. Nothing happens if i do such. If the module is active or not, I still see the same, included the "3 banners" block under the homepage slider.
    - I opened the module folder through Cpanel and found it almost empty: how could it be? I had already made my backup, so I tried to change the module folder with the udated version folder, through Cpanel. Nothing changed.
    - Cache options are ok for clearing, I cleared the site cache and followed some tuts on how to do this with certainty.
    - I saw that the Theme has a Cache folder, with an index stored in. I tried nothing as I'm not sure about it.

Now my problem n. 1 is modules are not working well now, and I hope that upgrading theme could solve this. My problem n. 2 is the "3 banners" section under the homepage slider, I just can't figure out how this could still be here if the module is completely empty. And I found no way to delete it.
I'm looking forward for your next answer. Time is important if possible, but I am already quite happy of your availability! Bye, thank you again.

    Hello,

    --- 3 banners problem: solved
I red everything and I can't explain myself how did I miss this. The 3 banners in home page are in the Theme configurator module, while I was certain they were Html blocks built with the free Html module, which were no more visible in the BO. I saw there were no saved modules in the Html module configurator, but the 3 banners were here and I couldn't understand how to delete them. So the error in this case was mine. This is solved now.
I can't provide screenshots of the originary columnn issue because i managed to delete it after my first ticket here. Here's what I did:
    - I asked for your help in the beginning because I had issues with Html module (duplicated module in column, etc).
    - After my first request, while waiting for an answer, I tried to solve the problem by myself, deleting 1) the saved html blocks from the module config in BO 2) some modules position in Ovic theme configurator, from BO left menu.
    - I was not able to remove the dupllicated html blocks in the column, so I tried to reset the module. After reset, the blocks were no more visibile, but the 3 banners under the Home Slider were still there.
Usage and layout were so similar, this is why I thought this was just another problem from the Html module, while the 3 banners were in another module, as you showed me now.

    --- html module problem
This module had several issues, now after Core update and some module resets, some things went better.. just a few opened questions.
I am sending you screenshots page about what happens in detail.

    --- theme update question
Even if theme update is found to be not necessary for this issue, I am realizing I need to be able to update the theme autonomously.
As you red, I cannot determine the exact theme version. I tried to search for solutions, and found nothing useful about it. Maybe I am not seeing the obvious as it was for the 3 banners problem.
Other threads i found talk about downloading last theme version, fetching the modified files in the log, and replacing them one by one.
Switching theme is not an option as all settings would be lost, but I am almost sure there must be a better way than the one-by-one solution, or updating online stores / oldest theme versions would be quite a mess.

    Why was the Topic closed?
I imagine you did not fix the Module issue or I would have received an answer.
My questions about update have been ignored since now.
Ticket was opened 2nd January and the site is stuck waiting for your assistance.
