Cannot get footer to work correctly in boutique theme

I cannot figure out how to add a footer in the Boutique theme. I have tried creating one on my own, but its not working. The document says there are pre-configured ones, but they do not appear to be loaded. The support document also states that it would walk me through how to create these, but I see no information in the document other than screen shots of setting one of the premade footers from the drop down which do not exist. I tried creating my own, but I have no idea what to do or how to make it work. It just appears to be duplicating my homepage at the bottom with a black background. If you would be able to assist me or tell me how to actually import these premade ones, I would like to use one. Also, how would I get an image into the header like you have pictured in some of the premade designs?
