How can I disable VALUE OF SALE and DESCRIPTION OF SALE RIBBONS

I would like to disable the (value of sale) red ribbon and the (description of sale) green ribbon. I left the form blank, but still get a small triangle of red and green.
I figured out that I can leave the Compare to price blank on the product listing. I would like to have the compare to price available if possible, but I'm ok if that is not possible..
Is it some thing I can turn off and on? I do not want to see the ribbons all the time.
