Inventory and Shipping

Hello, I am curious,

As people purchase things from my website will the inventory of the item automatically decrease or will I have to update that?

Also how are the shipping and handling costs calculated? Or is that completely separate from what this theme offers and I have to come up with that calculation on my own.
