How do I install KuteShop Childs Theme

Hello, please I have already installed Kuteshop theme and have already made some custom CSS changes as well as some function.php edits in the main theme. My question is:
1.) How do i install the Kuteshop childs theme? (is there a video tutorial for this you can recommend?)
2.) How do i ensure that the changes I have already made in my main theme is restored once i activate the new child's theme.
The reason this is a concern is that every youtube tutorial video i have watched about this topic ALWAYS advice to operate CSS and PHP files with the childs theme as theme developers can update their theme at any time making me lose all my important changes. I am testing my hands on PHP and I want to be operating on the Childs theme in order not to mess with the main theme.
