Add menu item to My Account box in KuteShop

Posted by: BorisWebdesign Aug 9, 2016 at 14:22 (8 year ago)
I’ve created a child theme and I am trying to customize the My Account box. I want to add a page to the dropdown. I’ve located the code in woocommerce.php, but when I add a link (in the woocommerce file in the child theme), it does not show up in the dropdown. How can I customized the My Account menu?

    Hello,
I really don't understand why you need access when I am asking a question about the My Account box built into the theme.

However, I've included a screenshot. You can see the My Account box on the right (Mijn Account in dutch). I want to add a page to this dropdown menu. I can enable or disable the My Account box in the Theme Settings, but I don't understand where I can adjust the menu that drops down from it.

I've created an admin account. However, you will need to tell me your IP address, as the site is not yet open to the public.I need to add your IP to the htaccess file so you can have access.

    Hi BorisWebdesign,
We got your issue. You can adjust the menu that drops down from kutetheme>>inc>>hoocks>>woocommerce.php find the function kt_myaccount_menu_link.
    Hope it useful for you.
    Thank you.

    Hello Kazim,
have you read my initial ticket request at all? As you can see, I already found that piece of code in woocommerce.php. I customized it, but the extra link is not showing up. Not when I add it to woocommerce.php in the child theme, and not when I add it to woocommerce.php in the parent theme.
Also, I find it odd to say the least, that you have not simply created this My Account box and connected a widget to it to include the 'my account' menu for instance. That way it could easily be adjusted. Now I have to mess around in the code, which I was hoping to avoid.
As said, I can adjust the woocommerce.php file, but for some reason the changes are not shown on the website. How does the hierarchy work with these files? does woocommerce.php in the child theme replace the one in the parent theme (as is the case with most files in a child/parent theme setup), or do they complement eachother (like functions.php)? I don't want to customize anything about the parent theme, since that will mean more manual labour when updating the theme.

So, I hope you can tell me how I can make the necessary adjustments. Please advise.
    Regards,
    Boris

What I see is that the classes added in woocommerce.php in the myaccount function, are not shown on the website. Instead, other classes are loaded. I'm including a screenshot of the loaded html/classes. This suggests that woocommerce.php is not the location where the used function is loaded.
    There is another difference:
    - function in woocommerce.php is called kt_myaccount_menu_link
    - header-1.php calls for:
That doesn't look like the same function or am I wrong? Where is the kt_menu_my_account function?

    Hello Kazim,
the question I asked has nothing to do with the child theme or its customizations. The classes I sent you are completely equal to the original theme, so the question is about the parent theme just as much. I've activated the parent theme now, and my question remains: where can I add items to the My Account dropdown?

The location you are suggesting does not work. I'm trying to be of help, so I sent you my findings (the location in woocommerce.php you are suggesting uses other classes on the dropdown than I am seeing on the actual frontend, and any changes made to the location in woocommerce.php do not show up on the frontend. This strongly suggests to me that this is not the correct location to adjust the My Account box dropdown.

Can you put my question through to someone who knows the parent theme well, and ask them how I can simply add an item to the My Account box on the frontend of the website?

    Thank you.

    Hello Kazim,

using the Kuteshop theme (no child!), I have tried to adjust the function kt_myaccount_menu_link. I see no change on the frontend. So, can you provide me with some sample code to add a simple extra link to this menu?

I do think it's very strange that this theme was created without the possibility of changing this menu without having to go into the code. But that is a different discussion.

Please send me some sample code of what you guys would do to add a link to the dropdown menu. This is the original code + the link code I added (the TESTLINK). But for some reason, the testlink does not come up on the frontend.

I must say I am deeply disappointed by your service level and by the theme itself. The service because you have failed to solve any of my questions, the theme because the more I dig into the theme, the more things I find that are poorly set up and therefore difficult to customize, even with only CSS.

I've replaced the My Account box with a simple custom menu. It looks exactly the same, and menu items can now easily be added or removed. That's just one example of how you could have made things user-friendly, and it's not even more work than the way you've created it.

You can close the ticket because I'm not getting any answers anyway.

I also think that closing tickets without notice and having them automatically removed from the My Ticket view is another example of sub par service. You should leave them in, so the customer can read them later, and re-open them if necessary.
