Switch through product photos with thumbnails rather than opening in lightbox

Currently, when I try to switch through photos on my product page, it automatically opens it up in lightbox. Is there a way to change this to where the main product photo changes to whichever thumbnail is clicked rather than opening the lightbox window?

Sure.

For example. this website:
https://www.freepeople.com/shop/moonstone-x-diamond-ring/

When you click on the thumbnails below the product image, it switches the main photo to the one you clicked and highlights which image you are on. Rather than opening it up in a lightbox.

Is this something that can be changed in the theme or is this something that needs to be done custom?
